Aqua Dunya LLC, and its sponsor investor, Al Sharq Investment, have now begun construction of the $1.8 billion Dubailand water themed family entertainment destination. The resort destination is scheduled to open in 2010 and is expected to attract 3 million annual visitors. Aqua Dunva will become one of the largest theme parks in the region after its opening.

The resort is to be built in three phases to supply the growing demand over the coming years as Dubai positions itself into a world leading entertainment destination.
The first phase of construction will include the Aqua Dunya them park, a major hotel 170 timeshare apartments and 1000 freehold homes.

The resort was planned with the needs of Arab visitors in mind. It will be a wet and dry park and guests will have the option of enjoying either the water rides in a swimming suit, or the land based attractions and rides while dressed in street clothes. Developers hope that the flexibility the resort offers will attract whole families to come in and join the fun.

The theme park is built around three islands and is based on the stories of Rakaan and his adventures.

The first phase to open will boast 35 rides and shows and will expand to an eventual 55 rides and shows at completion. The park is designed for broad appeal and there is something at the park for visitors young and old.

The resort will eventually boast an 18 whole golf course as well.
