The Marco Island City Council has approved a temporary beach access point at the south end of the new Marco Crystal Shores timeshare with a 6-1 vote last Monday evening.
According to Marco Police Lieutenant Matt Goetz, the temporary access could be open if it is marked with proper signs.
Developers lobbied for an extension on the permanent access point after timeshare sales began for the project, which should be completed in three phases.
“Sales are down from what we were expecting,” said Tom Brust of the Marriott Vacation Club. He says the reason for the delay is the unfavorable economic climate.
Sources say that the 20-foot-wide beach access, which includes a foot shower are on the north side, will be completed by 2015.
