What’s a medical vacation?
It is a vacation where you combine rest and leisure with medical treatments, most commonly surgery.
The term is categorized under “medical tourism”—the idea of traveling to another country for surgery, especially elective procedures.
Cost is one of the driving factors as to why people do this. According to a 2007 report by Healthbase, medical tourism can lead to great savings. In comparison to the United States (US) medical rates and fees in other countries are tremendously cheap. For example, in India hip surgery costs $12,000 and in the US it costs $48,000.
There are other benefits in medical tourism, such as faster appointment arrangements, relaxed and private location recovery offerings.
Just this week, South Korea announced the debut of the medical tourist visa, which simplifies the process of traveling to Korea for medical purposes.
Thailand recently made an announcement that it is targeting Qatar, Japan, and England as sources for medical tourists.
According to CNNHealth, the top medical tourism vacation countries are: Brazil, Singapore, Central America, South Africa, Malaysia, and South Korea.
If you want to add more savings to the mix, you can get a timeshare easily on any of these countries. This will allow you to be more relaxed and relieved while you’re in the process of recovery.
Plus, should you choose to reschedule another medical trip, accommodations will be a lot easier to arrange. If you choose not to own the timeshare, then you have a lot of options in the timeshare resale industry.
