The Marriott Vacation Club International announced that three of its timeshare properties have achieved the Florida Green Lodging Program Designation. These properties are: Grande Vista, Cypress Harbour, and Crystal Shores on Marco Island. These are the first three properties to gain the distinctive Florida Green status.
“Now, more than ever, environmental stewardship is a critical part of delivering unforgettable vacation experiences to our Owners and guests and vital to the future of travel and tourism,” said Troy Asche, regional VP of the company in the Florida-Caribbean region. “By taking strategic steps to ‘green’ our resort operations, our collective efforts can make a huge impact on preserving our beautiful Florida environment.”
The prestigious Green Lodging program is an effort by the Florida Department of Environmental Protection. The initiative was launched in 2004 by establishing rules for guest lodging facilities to conserve natural resources and prevent pollution.
By receiving the award, the three timeshare properties demonstrated a successful commitment to the protection of Florida’s natural habitat.
Resorts that qualify for the program have taken steps for environmental protection, such as implementation of recycling villas, installing compact fluorescent bulbs, and using environment-friendly cleaning products.
