A man recently paid $13,000 for a landmark timeshare but now he has no way of using it.

Sal Cardello thought that New London’s historic lighthouse is a nice place to spend a vacation.

“It was nice. The restaurant was great. The bar was nice,” said Cardello. “The rooms were comfortable.”

Last fall, the Gales Ferry man found out that his investment, which he paid in 2003, was practically worthless. The Inn closed down and its co-owners, Christopher Plummer and Maureen Clark, are charged for failing to pay their employees.

“It was a big let down and especially when we thought it would be like for 50-years,” said Cardello.

Cardello can stay at his defunct New London resort and he can’t exchange it for other timeshares, as well—because he has no timeshare to exchange.

“I definitely feel cheated; big time cheated,” said Cardello.

Upon trying to book another resort, he got a reply saying that the company is unable to accept the vacation time.

“Called a couple of lawyers in the area and they said there's really nothing I can do,” concluded Cardello.
