Tahiti Village, a timeshare property, has filed for bankruptcy protection.
Company executives have confirmed the shut down of sales and marketing offices in las Vegas, Florida, and Hawaii.
Grace Funcion, an employee of one of the sales offices, complained that she wasn’t given any warning and she wasn’t paid for her earned time off.
“It hurts me financially because I am in school fulltime, and now I'm unemployed,” said Funcion in an interview. “That was my only source of income. Without that vacation and sick time pay, I am worried how am I going to pay my rent, my bills—for my college, especially.”
Last Wednesday, Funcion contacted her manager, who told her that she was already lucky to get a pay check with the current state of the company.
But the shutdown not only affected the employees, it also affected some of the property owners.
Gloria Richardson, a tourist from Michigan, said that the timeshare company left her stranded in Las Vegas.
“Well , Circus Circus just informed us Tahiti Village has gone out of business, and we cannot stay here after all,” Richardson said."And so we're like, we made these reservations months ago.”
Richardson and her husband paid Tahiti Village a $120 deposit and they are not booked for a flight back to Michigan until Monday.
