Thinking of getting a timeshare?

Before you jump on an offer, take a second look. With so many timeshare scams out there, you can never be too careful with your decisions.

There are a number of methods of how con artists lure consumers into these scams. As described in TMJ4 Milwaukee: “Consumers get a call or an e-mail from a buyer or re-seller who has seen an ad for the timeshare, and they offer to buy it at the price asked or sometimes at an even higher price than what is being advertised.”

But before the sale proceeds, consumers are asked to pay a fee. After paying, the scammers promise to send a “copy” of the contract or offer.
Once the money has been deposited, the buyer is left without a contract and a proof of purchase.

If you ever receive an offer similar to what is being described, the first thing you must do is not to pay the buyer or seller without seeing a formal contract.

For reselling agents, check the name and reputation of their company before you bite the offer. Cross reference the company name to consumer organizations and regulatory bodies.

Last but not the least; verify the license of the re-seller. Ask questions regarding the offer to see if the seller knows what he/she is talking about.
