There are a lot of bargain timeshare deals out there. To make the most out of your money, make the right choices, and avoid being conned.
Here are some tips to help people who are considering selling or renting their timeshares:
• Inquire about the resort’s developer, its resort manager, and its owner’s association. More often than not, these organizations have newsletters and bulletin boards that can be used for ad material.
• Verify if your real estate agent is approved by regulators. Call the responsible local government organizations to verify a person or company’s legitimate status.
• Research if there are common complaints and concerns in the business or its employees. You can also contact the Better Business Bureau.
• Don’t agree to anything, especially if it’s a phone offer. Some resales agents will claim that your property is in demand and buyers are waiting, but until nothing is signed in contract, do not agree to pay for any fees and allow timeshare transfers.
• If you have been the victim of a scam, report the incident to the Better Business Bureau or the American Resort Development Association.
