Many timeshare owners in Ohio are looking for fast ways to recall their timeshare agreements.
In the last couple of years, timeshare owners submitted several complaints to the Ohio Attorney General’s office. The industry has doubled in the area, because the shareowners are also attempting to sell the property.
“From 2008 to 2009, the number of timeshare complaints filed with my office has nearly doubled and if current trends continue, this year's complaints will exceed the number filed in 2009,” explained Richard Corday, Ohio’s Attorney General. “We know that the tough economy has made it difficult for shareowners to resell, so they are turning to outside agencies to act as a broker. They are paying sometimes thousands of dollars in upfront fees to companies that promise to sell, but then do not.”
In a news article from Vindy.com, a reported cited the example of a woman who paid more than $1,000 upfront to market her timeshare through a resale company. After the owner paid the amount, she was no longer able to contact the resale company and her property was never marketed.
Corday strongly urged timeshare resellers not to make arrangements over the phone. He said that all the contract details should be put in writing and be carefully reviewed by a lawyer before agreed upon.
