The Consumers Association of Singapore (CASE) has received an injunction against the timeshare company Garraway Enterprises for unfair trading practices.
In 2007, 75 people complained about the firm’s hard-selling tactics and misleading claims. The total value of these cases amounted to S$887,000.
The consumers complained about being approached on the streets with winning scratch cards and they were asked to collect prizes from the firm’s office.
The bystanders were pressured into signing up for membership, which cost anywhere between S$3,650 and S$30,000. The payment promised them access to a booking system for vacations, as well as discounts and hotel fares.
