Florida regulators have doubled their efforts to catch timeshare scams in the region.
During the past month, the Department of Agriculture has issued and filed more than 100 cease-and-desist orders, six subpoena, two lawsuits, and imposed more than $100,000 worth of fines.
The state department currently has more than 40 ongoing investigations and nine open-ended lawsuits.
Timeshare scams have generated over 8,400 consumer complaints in the past year.
“When you get on the inside of many of these operations as we just did, you see too many of them with no licenses, registration or accountability of any kind simply trying to turn a quick buck at a consumer's expense,” said Charles Bronson, the commissioner of Agriculture.
