[PRWeb] -- Leading timeshare resale and rental advertiser Buy A Timeshare made the holidays much brighter for local children in the Tampa Bay area by holding a toy donation drive to support the Toys for Tots program.

Toys for Tots is the program conducted by the U.S. Marine Corps Reserves to help children who otherwise might not receive a gift during the holidays. The primary goal of Toys for Tots is to deliver, through a new toy at Christmas, a message of hope to less fortunate youngsters that will assist them in becoming responsible, productive, patriotic citizens.

The Tampa, Florida, office of Buyatimeshare.com started collecting toys from November 29th through December 17th, after which the toys were driven to the Toys for Tots donation headquarters on Gandy Blvd. About three dozen toys were donated through the program, which allowed the company to put a smile on the faces of several children in the community who may not have had a present to open on Christmas.

Toys for Tots began in 1947 when Major Bill Hendricks, USCR, and a group of Marine Reservists in Los Angeles collected and distributed 5,000 toys for needy children. Since then, Marines have distributed more than 400 million toys through the program to more than 188 million needy children.
