A top-ten list has recently been released by Southern Arizona's Better Business Bureau highlighting the most prevalent scam and rip-off gimmicks of 2010 by online hustlers and hackers. Included in the list are timeshare resellers whose fraud cases have increased by as much as 40 percent last year.
BBB says that the favorite targets of scammers are unemployed Internet users who give their personal information online. Scammers were able to acquire social security numbers and bank account details from their clueless victims. Another top target for scammers is people who are burdened by debt. There was a 30 percent increase in the number of complaints about people getting scammed by third party debt relief agencies.
Meanwhile, work from home schemes also made it into the list. This type of online scam lures people looking for freelance work into buying products and mailing the items to the supposed employer. A lot of complaints have also been received about victims being used to fence stolen products in their keeping.
