The local government of Honolulu city is sending out a letter to a Kailua home property owner regarding laws governing property rentals over a short time. The property is where US President Barack Obama, along with his family, had rented and stayed in a recent visit to the city.

According to David Tanoue, City Planning and Permitting Director, local laws do not allow residential property owners to render rental services for periods less than thirty days. Accommodations lasting less than the prescribed stay period require property owners to acquire a permit from city government.

Since there is no exact known period of which the President and his family stayed at the property, a letter is being sent to said property owner Glenn Weinberg for clarification. Meanwhile, in an interview with Civil Beat news website, Weinberg explains that he is allowed to rent his property for periods not lasting 30 days provided that he will not seek further rental within the same 30-day period.
