Canadian police officials have issued a statement to the general public warning them of the dangers lurking in timeshare condominiums as well as discount travel clubs. Guests, visitors and potential investors could wind up as victims to fraudulent timeshare deals and discount promotions.

There have been recent cases of timeshare fraud all throughout Saskatchewan and B.C. Tourists and local guests are being approached by shady dealers who offer membership to so-called discount travel clubs. Complainants report that they were asked by dealers to pay them huge fees upfront as well as advanced monthly dues to avail of discount promotions in later travel dates.

One case in Saskatchewan involves a group of club members that lost money when the supposed travel discount club broke apart. The money lost amounted to as much as $130,000. John Frank Veinot was found guilty for committing fraud against the members and was sentenced to three years imprisonment.
