Soon, people who smoke will start to lose more and more venues to indulge in their addiction. That’s because lodgings, motels and hotels are slowly following airline and passenger train trends of prohibiting smoking in their venues. Some companies have even taken it upon themselves to voluntarily ban smoking in order to ride with public awareness regarding the health risks of inhaling second-hand smoke.
Meanwhile, other companies have been forced into banning smoking by increasing legislation in both local and state laws. Around 13,000 public lodging venues in the US are now smoke-free, as reported by the American Automobile Association. The number has increased by almost 4,600 since November of 2008.
Americans for Nonsmokers’ Rights associate director Bronson Frick says that “the smoke-free hotel trend has finally caught up with the rest of the movement.” Frick explains that airlines have banned smoking as early as 1990, starting with the state of California.
