Prime Minister Sarah Wescot-Wiliams announced recently the formulation of a plan of approach involving both public and private sectors. The plans were presented during a meeting with the Prime Minister held at the Government Administration Building, and involve efforts at minimizing the anticipated fallout once Simpson Bay Resort & Marina, including The Villas at Simpson Bay, close on the 20th of this month.
The Prime Minister was commended by the St. Maarten Timeshare Association (SMTA) as well as the St. Marten Hospitality & Trade Association (SHTA) for putting together a crisis time assigned to take responsibility for assessing and mitigating the resort’s impending closure.
All efforts are being made by mediators appointed by government to bring together both new resort owners and union members to talk negotiations. The hope is for an employment agreement to go a long way to resolve the core issues which eventually led to the resort’s closure.
