The Pelican Resort Club which used to boast around 500 or more villas has finally closed. The resort has also been renamed as the Simpson Bay Club, and is now officially closed to the public. Dozens of non-union workers employed under the resort's old management plus over 180 union members make up over two hundred workers who now feel the negative effects of the closure which has spanned only a few days.
Customer visits has been perishing along with the number of staff remaining employed within the resort's area. As long as the impasse remains, the effect it has over the island's economy will keep growing, especially because of its dependence on tourism coming from the United States.
Slowly but surely, it is being proven throughout the area surrounding the resort that timeshare visitors spend freely while on vacation, especially since they do not have a hotel bill to worry about once their stay ends.
