A couple from Raleigh has been duped out of $5,000 after being promised that their timeshare properties would be easy to sell. Jerry and Patricia Brueggeman were expecting to earn a little retirement bonus by selling their time shares, but unfortunately things didn't quite turn out the way they expected.
It all began when they spoke over the phone with a timeshare agent from Royal Resorts USA promising to sell the couples three timeshare properties. The husband says that "they said well we are selling time shares for people to corporate buyers and if yours qualifies we'll put you in the block and sell your time share."
The couple was first charged $1,200 but soon after signing the contract to sell, they were again asked for an additional $1,845 to search for a title. Then they were again charged $1,875 to handle lawyers and other services, putting their total money laundered to about $4,920. Despite all the money they spent, they never saw their timeshare properties being advertised on the company's website.
