A gas meter malfunction in front of Satellite Beach timeshare condominium in Florida caused flames to shoot up from the ground. According to Satellite Beach Fire Chief Don Hughes who responded to the emergency, there was "an explosion and fire."
Meanwhile, workers employed under a local gas company ran for cover during the explosion as residents staying at the Las Olas Beach Club evacuated the premises. Investigations show that a gas line had disconnected from the wall and caused the gas switch off valve to break.
What could have been an easily fatal incident claimed zero lives as the worker who had been assigned that time was fortunate enough to go out looking for a valve replacement. Three minutes later, fire crews around Satellite beach got to the scene and were able to put the fire out. Out of the 100 persons that had to be evacuated, no one was harmed.
