Spain is well on track towards reigning supreme once more at third place on the list of among the top ten most visited countries in the world. According to airline websites, there has already been an increase in flight reservations for Spain, specifically Mallorca, the Balearics and the Canary Islands.
The country was faced with quite a challenge from "emerging destinations" by places such as the Red Sea region in Egypt and Turkey, having become new favorites among travelers. Fortunately for Spain, the political unrest enveloping Egypt and Tunisia had had a negative impact on their tourism, thus resulting in more vacationers choosing the Iberian peninsula.
As Europe's most popular timeshare destination, Spain suffered a setback last year when it dropped from third to fourth place to France, the U.S. and China. This year, however, it may regain its third place position with almost a 9% increase in visitor numbers last month.
