Last year, a law was passed exempting vacation homes from the need to install fire sprinkler systems similar to those mandatory in hotels. This was pushed forth thanks to various complaints from timeshare owners in Southwest Florida. Now, another law is about to be passed. This time around, it seeks to lift the exemption being enjoyed by vacation homes.
Regulation of vacation homes is hotly being contested in Florida, especially with its $60-billion annual tourism industry being threatened by pending bills in congress. Industry officials will be meeting with lawmakers for the next couple of months in order to discuss matters during Florida State's yearly legislative session.
Hotel owners have been clamoring for congressmen to impose harsher penalties on people who illegally distribute pizza fliers in their establishments. Restaurants want to ensure that permits for liquor products become more attainable. Meanwhile, convention-and-visitors bureaus want to tighten the lid on septic tanks in order to preserve natural tourism hot spots such as Tallahassee's Wachulla Springs and Marion County's Silver Springs.
