Local regulators in Lee County have warned its residents about timeshare telemarketing scams.
The Sheriff’s Office Fraud Line has already received numerous calls concerning unsolicited telemarketing agents, who claim to have buyers for the resident’s timeshare property.
The scammers say that the owner will make a financial profit from the deal. However, they ask for up-front fees that can cost up to $8,000. After getting the fee, the telemarketers disappear without a trace.
According to the Sheriff’s Office, timeshare owners in the area have already lost thousands of dollars from these scams.
Timeshare renters should be wary, as well. When booking stays over the internet, make sure to double check the company you’re working with through the Better Business Bureau.
