Reports say that a Florida-based telemarketing timeshare scam has victimized dozens of residents from Southern Illinois.
Jennifer Kirk, the telemarketing scammer, has been charged of a $30-million, nationwide scam.
Prosecutors say that Kirk hired telemarketers to make calls to timeshare owners. Similar to typical timeshare scams, the scammers called timeshare owners, promising them that they had buyers for their property. The scammers then solicited upfront fees and never called back the owners.
According to reports, Kirk’s company collected more than 20,000 victims.
If convicted, Kirk can spend up to 25 years in prison.
