With its many timeshare companies, Thailand is ramping up its rules and regulations against scams.
The Tourism Authority of Thailand has issued a warning to businesses and operators that it will consider legal action against companies that counterfeit or imitate its trademarks, including its logo.
The malpractice has often been performed by illegal timeshare operators in Phuket. They do it to raise their credibility to their victims.
“The TAT has its seal and initials in English and Thai registered with the Trademark Office, Department of Intellectual Property, as a service mark according to the Trademark Act B.E. 2534 (1991),” the regulators said in a statement. “Consequently, any persons who use the TAT seal and initials without permission from the TAT, including those who imitate the TAT seal and initials, are committing a punishable offence under the Act.”
TAT will issue court cases to those who use its trademarks illegally.
