Pam Bondi, Florida’s Attorney General, says that a new legislation is needed to crackdown on timeshare scams.

According to Bondi, Florida needs to apprehend timeshare telemarketers in its vicinity. Until lawmakers can act, she urged timeshare owners not to fall prey to these scammers.

Timeshare owners are advised not to give out any information about themselves or their credit cards whenever telemarketers contact them.

Bondi says that her office has already received close to 7,000 complaints on these scams this year alone.

A new legislation would prevent deceptive advertising claims. It would also require marketers to honor cancellations within one week and they’d be force to deliver full refunds in 20 days.
