The “Timeshare Resale Accountability Act” passed the business and consumer affairs subcommittee of Florida. Some of its sponsors include Rep. Eric Eisnaugle and its supported by Andy Gardiner in the Senate.
Timeshare fraud is a top complaint in Florida. Most of these con artists are based in Palm Beach County.
Currently, federal prosecutors have reached many plea deals with top perpetrators. With the bill, state rules and regulations will be tightened.
Scams are usually performed through telemarketers, who con them into paying upfront fees for non-existent sales arrangements.
The new bill requires companies to disclose the names and addresses of potential buyers.
Pam Bondi, Florida’s Attorney General, supports the bill; and says that it will defend consumers from unfair marketing practices.
